Pontocho

Good for yakiniku and sukiyaki along a narrow lane by the river.

Pontocho is the lane between Shijo and Sanjo that runs beside the Kamo, and it is built around beef. Kyoto Yakiniku HIRO Pontocho, Pontocho Yakiniku Yamakawa and Yakiniku Douraju grill it at the table, while Mishima-Tei and Moritaya cook it on a hot plate. Tousuiro does tofu kaiseki over the river, and the Common One Bar and Kashoan finish the night with gin and matcha cocktails. Musashi Sushi is the cheap conveyor-belt option when the rest is full.
