How credits work and troubleshooting extractions
How do credits work?
Every video you extract uses 1 credit. Free accounts get 1 credit per week. Explorer plans get 5 per week and Pro plans get 10 per week. Credits refresh automatically each week on your plan's renewal day.
What counts as using a credit?
Each video URL you submit for extraction uses 1 credit, regardless of how many places are found in the video. If an extraction fails due to a processing error on our end, the credit is refunded automatically.
Can I buy extra credits?
Yes. Top-up packs are available in bundles of 10 ($7), 25 ($15), or 100 ($50) credits. Top-up credits never expire and are used after your weekly plan credits.
Why did my extraction fail?
Common reasons include: the video is set to private or friends-only, the video has been deleted, the URL is from an unsupported platform, or the video is region-locked. Make sure the video is publicly accessible and try again.
Which platforms are supported?
Spillist supports both TikTok and Instagram Reels. Instagram Reels support is something most similar tools don't offer, so if you've been struggling to extract places from Reels, we've got you covered. We extract places mentioned in the video's audio, captions, and on-screen text across both platforms.
What types of content work best?
Any video that mentions specific places works great. Restaurant guides, travel vlogs, bar crawls, hotel reviews, cafe recommendations, shopping hauls with store names, neighbourhood guides, and "best of" lists all work well.
What if no places are found?
If the video doesn't mention any specific places like restaurants, bars, cafes, or hotels, we'll let you know and refund your credit. Not every video contains extractable places.
How long does an extraction take?
Most extractions complete within 30-60 seconds. Longer videos may take up to 2 minutes. You'll get a notification when your places are ready.

Plans, upgrades, and payment questions
What plans are available?
Spillist offers three tiers: Free (1 credit/week), Explorer ($5/month or $48/year - 5 credits/week), and Pro ($9/month or $86/year - 10 credits/week). All plans include unlimited lists and place saves.
How do I upgrade my plan?
Go to Settings > Subscription or visit the Pricing page. You can upgrade at any time and your new credits will be available immediately. On iOS, you can also upgrade through the App Store.
What happens if I downgrade?
Your existing lists and saved places are never deleted. You'll keep access to everything you've already created. Your weekly credit allowance will adjust to the new plan on your next renewal date.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. You can cancel your subscription at any time from your account settings. You'll continue to have access to your paid features until the end of your current billing period.
Are iOS and web subscriptions linked?
Your Spillist account is the same across both platforms. If you subscribe via the App Store on iOS, it applies to your account everywhere. Same if you subscribe via the web. You only need one subscription.
Do you offer refunds?
Web subscriptions managed through Stripe can be refunded within 7 days of purchase. For App Store purchases, refund requests are handled through Apple's refund process.
Is there an annual discount?
Yes. Annual billing saves you roughly 20% compared to paying monthly. Explorer is $48/year (vs $60 monthly) and Pro is $86/year (vs $108 monthly).
Why are prices different on the App Store vs the website?
Apple takes a 30% commission on all App Store purchases, which means iOS prices are slightly higher to account for this. If you'd like the best price, subscribing through our website is the most cost-effective option. Either way, your subscription works across both platforms.
Where does my subscription money go?
Running Spillist involves significant infrastructure costs. Every extraction requires video downloading, audio transcription, place matching against mapping APIs, and server processing. These services cost real money per extraction, which is why we use a credit-based model. Your subscription directly funds the servers, APIs, and processing power that make instant place extraction possible.
Lists & Collaboration
Creating, sharing, and managing your lists
How do I create a list?
When you extract places from a video, they're automatically added to a new list. You can also create empty lists from the My Lists page and add places to them manually.
How do I share a list?
Open any list and tap the share button. You can share a link that anyone can view, or invite specific people as collaborators who can add and reorder places.
What can collaborators do?
Collaborators can add places to the list, reorder items, and vote on places. Only the list owner can delete the list or remove collaborators.
How do I leave a shared list?
Open the list, go to the list settings or options menu, and select "Leave list". Your contributions will remain on the list but you'll no longer receive updates.
Can I restore deleted items?
Yes. Deleted list items are soft-deleted and can be restored within 30 days. Go to the list settings to view and restore recently removed items.
How does drag-to-reorder work?
On the list view, press and hold any item's drag handle (the grip icon) to pick it up, then drag it to your preferred position. This works on both web and the iOS app.

Signing in, account settings, and security
How does magic link login work?
Enter your email and we'll send you a one-time login link. Click the link in your email to sign in instantly - no password needed. Links expire after 10 minutes.
How does Sign in with Apple work?
Tap "Sign in with Apple" on the login screen. Apple handles authentication securely and you can choose to share or hide your email address. Your account is created automatically on first sign-in.
Can I use the same account on web and iOS?
Yes. Your Spillist account works across both platforms. Sign in with the same email or Apple ID and all your lists, places, and credits will be synced.
How do I change my email?
Go to Profile > Settings. You can update your email address there. You'll need to verify the new email via a confirmation link.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Profile > Settings > Delete Account. This will permanently remove your account, lists, and all associated data. This action cannot be undone.
iOS App
Using Spillist on iPhone and the Share Extension
How do I use the Share Extension?
When you're watching a video on TikTok or Instagram, tap the share button and select "Spillist" from the share sheet. The extraction will start automatically and the places will appear in your Spillist account.
Why isn't the Share Extension showing up?
After installing Spillist, you may need to enable the extension. Go to the share sheet, scroll to the right, tap "More", and toggle on Spillist. If it still doesn't appear, try restarting your phone.
The extraction seems stuck. What should I do?
Most extractions finish within 60 seconds. If it's been longer than 2 minutes, close the share sheet and check your Discoveries in the Spillist app. The extraction may have completed in the background.

Spillist is available for free on the App Store. Search for "Spillist" or visit our download link from the website.

How place matching and voting works
How are places identified?
We use a combination of audio transcription, caption analysis, and on-screen text recognition to find place names. These are then matched against Google Places to get accurate details like address, photos, and ratings.
What if a place is wrong or missing?
Place matching isn't perfect - sometimes a mentioned place can't be found or gets matched incorrectly. You can vote down incorrect matches, and we use these signals to improve accuracy.
How does voting work?
Each extracted place can be upvoted or downvoted by the community. This helps surface the best recommendations and flag any incorrect matches. Your votes are visible only to you.
Privacy & Data
How we handle your data and privacy
What data does Spillist collect?
We store your email, saved lists, extracted places, and usage data. We do not store or keep copies of the videos you extract from. See our full Privacy Policy for details.
Are my videos stored?
No. Videos are temporarily processed to extract audio and text, then immediately discarded. We only store the resulting place data, never the video content itself.
How do I request my data or account deletion?
You can delete your account and all associated data from Profile > Settings. For a full data export or GDPR-related requests, contact us at support@spillist.com.
