Good for food markets, tapas taverns and Madrid's gay bars.
Chueca is tight, loud and good at tapas. Mercado San Antón and Mercado de San Ildefonso are the food halls, Taberna La Carmencita and Casa Salvador are the old taverns, and El Cisne Azul is the one to book for mushrooms. Angelita pours natural wine upstairs and cocktails in the basement, and LL Bar is the drag-and-dance end. Aperitivo hour at Hermanos Vinagre is when it fills.
