Best Things to Do in Shinjuku (2026): A Whole Day, Sorted
Shinjuku is good for a free observation deck, department stores and a century of tonkatsu, and the things to do people save most are Tokyo Toilet Jingu-dori Park, Ozeki Tokyo Gallery and Lake Kawaguchiko. Ranked from 17 places we track here, creator picks first.
Updated · 17 places we track in Shinjuku, all first recorded in March 2026
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building has an observation deck on the 45th floor and it is free, which makes it the cheapest view in the city. Isetan has a rooftop for a picnic, the SOMPO Museum of Art hangs Van Gogh's Sunflowers, and Oroji Tonkatsu has been frying the same cutlets for a century. Tempura Funabashiya and Tsunahachi cover the tempura. The station is a maze, so give yourself ten minutes more than you think.
How we chose
We track 17 places in Shinjuku filed under things to do. 15 of them turned up in creator videos we pulled apart. 4 places have been saved by Spillist members. Places with a creator mention, a member save or a member gem rank first, and mentions weigh most. The rest runs on a broader popularity signal from our wider place index, so the tail of this list moves less than the top does. Last added to in March 2026.
